--WebTV-Mail-20781-1551 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church is located at Dobie which is in the township of Stanfold in Barron Co. You may have an Address of Residence for the Busse family as Rice Lake, but they may, in fact, have lived in Stanfold or Rice Lake township. Your ancestors are buried at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. I have seen their graves many times. They may have moved into the city of Rice Lake during their declining years and went to church at St. Jospeph's Catholic Church. Wisconsin has the following divisions: village, city, township county, state. Often people mistake the following: "they lived in the town of Rice Lake" for meaning the family lived in the City of Rice Lake. It actually should mean, and usually does, that new family lived in the township of Rice Lake. I hope this clears up some of your mystery. Sincerely, Rosemarie Novak President-Barron Co. Hello, I am just beginning to research the Bussie and Guay families from Rice Lake, WI (1881-1963) In the box of papers that was handed down to me is a Baptismal Certificate for Leda Guay, baptized in 1886 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. I thought the family always lived in Rice Lake...and that St. Joseph was the parish church there. Will someone please set me straight on this? Thank you for your help! If you did not see my Query, I will re-post it. I just got a couple Obituaries on family members in Barron Co. and there was some new names I did not know about. I hopped to find if they married and had children? June and Norma WICKENBURG born between 1919-1924, Turtle Lake, Barron Co. WI. Also it mentions Lillie was a member of the "Eve Lodge D of R." Does anyone know what the Eve Lodge was-is? Thanks much, Greg
I joined this list over a month ago and the only posting I have seen is my own confirmation. Is anybody out there on the Barron Co. list? Joanne
Hi all! By popular demand I have created a Wisconsin Surname Locator page on ALHN WI. The pages hold such information as what surname is being researched, what county it is being researched in, who is researching it, and a link to that researcher's email address. Please stop by and check it out or add your names at: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/WI_index.html - scroll down to Wisconsin Surname Locator and click on that button. There are well over 700 surnames listed there now and more being worked on as you read this. I just got the 1900 Census on a family member. Under Naturalized is "NA" I assume this means "Naturalized" ? Where would I write to in Wisconsis for these records? State or County Archives? Thanks, Greg
Hi listers For the new among us: Here is the link for the Barron Co., Genealogical Society, Hosted by Rosemarie Novak, there is an active message board. http://members.aol.com/wisgenweb/barron.html An abbreviated version of the 1870 census for Barron Co., Wisconsin is here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/barron.htm It contains the following: Name, Age, Occupation and Birthplace. This is the first Barron Co. census as the county was formed in 1869 from portions of surrounding counties. I no longer live in Wisconsin, however, I will do look-ups in reference sources I have here at home. They are: 1. History of Barron Co., Wisconsin, 1922 An excellent history of the county, it's cities, towns and villages. Also biographical sketches for more than 1100 of it's early settlers. It is not completely indexed, and contains in excess of 1100 pages, however an index of the biographies can be found here. Also many of those same biographies are posted, at that site. 2. 1903 Plat Book of Barron Co. An unindexed volume. I would like at least a township if possible before requesting a search. 3. The First 50 Years of Rice Lake, Wis., 1875-1925 contains hundreds of names from the earliest issue of the Chronotype. Also a brief history of Knapp, Stout and Co., The lumber giant that had a great influence on the growth of Barron Co., 4. Historical Album, Centennial of Cameron, 1879-1979. Also unindexed. Would the listowner please contact me. Respectfully submitted, Vic Gulickson Regards Vic Gulickson
