Hello Rooters: I am new to this list. I am researching my husband's ancestors, in Turtle Lake. George W. Stewart was b. 1867 and his brother, Adam Stewart b. June 1868. both in PA. At some point in time they moved to Turtle Lake and Adam worked in railroading. George m. a woman named Josephine, b. in Canada. They had a dau. named Lilian, b. abt 1906. Adam m. Anna/Annie Gordon, who was b. July 1872 in Hersey, St. Croix Co.,WI. Their ch. were Charles, b. 1892; Ernest,b. Dec.26,1894; Earl Frank, b. Aug. 25,1895, and my husband's grandmother, Ellen, b. Oct. 1898. Does anyone have any information at all concerning this family? I believe all 4 of Adam's children were born in Turtle Lake, but I found only one birth certificate for Earl. I have tried getting the birth certificate for Ellen, but the state of WI can not find the record. My husband's mother, Anna Catharine, was the daughter of Ellen and her husband, John Downey. She was born in LaCrosse,WI and given up for adoption when she was 2-3 years old. I would like to find out more about this family and why she was given up. Perhaps it was the flu epidemic? Any information about this family will be most helpful. I would especially like to find a living relative. Regards, Arline (Taylor) Larson Native of Paxton, Worcester Co.,MA: living in Florida [email protected]

Hi everyone, Would someone send me the address of the Barron County Genealogical Society? I have ancestors who lived in Cedar Lake, Mikanna, Loveland and Ironwood, Barron County between 1885 and 1923; they also purchased land in Cedar Lake, and raised most of their children there. I have been unable to locate a death record for one of those ancestors, Isaac Harmison. Isaac and his wife, Eunice and their daughter, Sarah Harmison and spouse William Small, were farmers in the above locals until at least 1895. Sometime between 1895 and 1900, they moved to Chippewa County; after the deaths of Isaac and Eunice, Sarah and her husband, William Small, moved back to Eau Claire, Wisconsin which is where the family originated from. I've checked obits and Register of Deeds offices of all three counties, Barron, Chippewa and Eau Claire, and none have death information for my Isaac Harmison. He is buried at Lake View Cemetery in Eau Claire. According to Isaac's tombstone, he died May 14, 1898. I believe he sold his land in Cedar Lake in 1891. I sure could use some help in locating his death records. Unfortunately, rumor is that the person who was the sexton of Lake View Cemetery for about 40 years, including the year of Isaac's death, was, shall we say, less than sober on the job and didn't bother recording information properly; so that's a dead end as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope
Most of my family on both sides is from Barron County - father's family is from Rice Lake and mother's from Cumberland. I would be interested in seeing the obituaries for John J. Jacobson and Timothy O'Gara - I have both names in my family tree. Primary names I am researching in this area are JACOBSON, JOHNSON, DAHL, NELSON. kate (jacobson) wilson houston, tx -----Original Message----- From: Bortners [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, October 16, 1999 7:28 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Barron Co. roots- Johnson, Merritt, Drolson I'd like to introduce myself and help get this list going. Hello to everyone on the list. I am trying to find death certificates for my ancestors, Isaac Harmison and Calvin P. Harmison. I recently learned that as of 1885, both were living in Ironwood, Township of Doyle, Barron County and that as of 1895, Isaac was living in Loveland (Loveland Corners), Township of Cedar Lake, Barron County. Isaac Harmison was born April 17, 1814 in Montgomery County, Ohio; he died May 14, 1898, and is buried at LakeView Cemetery, Eau Claire. In 1885, Isaac purchased land in Cedar Lake; his wife, Eunice Harmison, and his daughter, Sarah Harmison Small, returned to Chippewa County, Wisconsin around the time of Isaac's death. I have found no death records for Isaac Harmison at either Chippewa County or Eau Claire County Register of Deeds offices; therefore, I'm assuming he died in Cedar Lake. Calvin P. Harmison was born July 7, 1843. He lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin until about 1886 at which time he also moved to Ironwood. I've not been able to find any records of Calvin's death at either Chippewa or Eau Claire so I'm presuming he died in Barron County as well. If anyone on the list does lookups for Barron County, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. I'd be more than willing to cover any associated costs. Thanks. Hope

I am seeking information on the family, if one exists, of John Radtke born 1879 and died Dec. 1943 in Rice Lake and his wife Louisa Burkhart Radtke born in Bloomer in 1885 and died in a Chippewa Falls nursing home sometime in the 1970s. The Radtke's were married in Bloomer in 1910. As far as I know, the Radtkes lived in Rice Lake. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
