Surnames: Helgeson, Helgarson, Erickson, Kasa Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XEC.2ACE/1632 Message Board Post: Does anyone know where I can view early church records from the Lutheran church in Arkdale (ca. 1855-1861)? I believe my great grandfather was baptized there in 1856 or 1857, by one of the Preus ministers. In his bible, there was a reference to "Roche-a-Cree", which I've been told was a (Norwegian) congregation/settlement associated with the church in Arkdale. (The 1860 census lists my g grandfather's family in Strongs Prairie, Adams County, under the name, "Helgarson"; although the census gives his father's given name as "Ole", it was actually "Erik"; the family later used the surname, "Kasa".) Thanks for any help, Vickie [email protected]
Vickie - This may not be of much help, but by doing a place search in the LDS Family History Library Catalog you will find a film of the confirmation classes 1868-1924 for the Lutheran Church in Arkdale and Strong Prairie Township. This can be ordered through your local Family History Center for a small fee for viewing at their facility. If you "Google" Roche a Cree you will find two or three sites that provide insight to the early history of the area. Happy Hunting!
