SCHOONOVER, RESIDENT OF EASTON 65 YEARS DIES AT BARBER, WYOMING, AUGUST 17 – John F. Schoonover who came to the town of Easton, in this county with his parents, in 1852 and who resided in that town until 1917, a period of 65 years, died Wednesday of last week at Barber, Wyoming, where his later years have been passed. The remains were brought back to the scene of his active years for burial in the Easton Cemetery. The funeral was held at his old home in Easton, Sunday, August11. The deceased was born April 13, 1850 in Rockford, Illinois but when he was two years of age his parents moved to the town of Easton, and located on the farm that was to be his home for so many years. He was married March 24, 1874 to Miss Catharine McArthur, who preceded in death November 22, 1917. Four children were born to this union, one of whom, Frank, died in infancy. The others, Ralph, Jesse and Alvin, survive. He also leaves seven grandchildren and other relatives to miss hi! m. (Another 1927 newspaper excerpt) JOHN SCHOONOVER – John Schoonover, a pioneer settler in the town of Easton, died at the home of his son, Jesse, at Barber, Wyo., August 17, 1927. Deceased was born at Rockford, Ill., April 13, 1850. When he was two years of age, his parents moved to the town of Easton, and settled on the farm, where he resided until 1917. Mr. Schoonover was united in marriage with Catherine McArthur on March 24, 1874, and to them were born four sons, Frank who died in infancy, Ralph, Jesse and Alvin. Mrs. Schoonover died November 22, 1917. Soon after the death of his wife, Mr. Schoonover sold the farm, and gave up farming, making his home with his children. During his long residence in Easton, he was known as an upright, honorable man, a good citizen, a dependable friend and a good neighbor. (Another 1927 newspaper excerpt) EASTON PIONEER BURIED TUESDAY – Easton, August 23 – The sad news of the death of John Schoonover, a pioneer resident of this place, who died at the home of his son in Wyoming was received here last wee. The remains were brought here and funeral services held at the home of Maurice Roller on Tuesday. Interment was in the Easton Cemetery.
