They left the port of hamburg, and arrived in new york where they proceeded to illinois. I have looked into the kutzleb family in germany and have come up a little short. It seems that there were either not many kutzlebs or that records of them did not survive. My kutzleb ancestors were living in altona which is a part of hamburg prior to departure for the U.S. and my great-great grandfather johann wilhelm kutzleb was a shoemaker there. I can tell you that there is a story in my family concerning a famous/semi-famous kutzleb relative who was a sculptor. I don't know anything more about that individual though. The emmigration record from hamburg says that my great-great grandfather johann wilhelm kutzleb's nationality or family origin is mecklenburg. There is also family stories about the kutzleb's being rather poor. They were said to be ragpickers. We are not related within the family in the U.S. however I would! expect that we are somehow related in germany.
