My gr grandfather James Steven Capal may of changed his name from Kopstein to Capal. This is just an idea. I did find a Steven Kopstein on a 1910 census that fit his description perfect. On that census it listed his family as being Emma(wife), James(son), Steven(son). The family in later census records could not be found as a group. The boys were found in Michigan living with another family in 1920 and much later in a SSDI one was found to have ended up living in Wisconsin. If this sounds familier to anyone please contact me!

    3. Dan - For some years now a cousin and I have been trying to determine the burial place of our great-great-grandfather, Sylvanus Twist. Family story is that he and his eldest son were both buried in "a little country cemetery in Richfield Township in Adams Co....there were no markers placed on the graves and no record kept." This is from a letter from a relative to another relative, written in 1951. These persons are both deceased now. And I have often wondered about the comment that there were no records kept! There was reference just previous to this about a family Bible, so I don't know if the implication is that the family did not keep any record - I can't see that there wouldn't be some kind of official record. But I haven't located any funeral home that was operating back then - Sylvanus died January 25, 1861 as far as we know and son Henry about 1893-94. Would you know if there would have been cemetery deeds or a coroner's report in those days? I am aware of a number of cemeteries that probably fit the bill, but I don't recall having heard of White Cemetery. Does it fit the description above? And how did you go about locating your people there? I hope you can shed some light on this problem - it's my major brick wall! I won't guarantee it, because I have lots of family to look up there myself, but will try, time allowing. Please post to the board and I will print it out. Dolly

The LDS microfilm loans for $3.25/reel, probably the lowest cost option if a free look-up is not available. I am not sure if this will help you, or only muddy the waters but I came across a Hutchinson marriage yesterday, while indexing Marquette county's early marriage records from microfilm: Sarah E. Hutchinson to James H Shipway (who lived in Adams co), on 2 April 1887. Sarah's parents were William A and Rebecca, Rebecca's maiden name appears to have been either Thome or Thorne. The couple's marriage is recorded in Marquette Co Vol 1 P329, No. 1884 on LDS microfilm 1-292-024.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XEC.2ACE/1661.1.2 Message Board Post: Well I gave all the information I had in a prior e-mail, the one before you replied on. All I asked for was the parents of this man that died supposedly in Adams Co or Columbia, which I have had looked up there (Columbia) and he didn't die there either. I am frustrated and have been asking for quit awhile on this man and get (everything) but his parents names. Thats all I wanted- a death look up, so all that was needed was a death date which I did provide. I don't think anything else was needed. I gave all I had the first I wrote which was nothing so there was nothing else to give. If you click on my name and see where else I have researched and some of my letters on people, you will see I put all I know in when asking. At the time, I had nothing to give on Calvin. So I am sorry I wasn't "cordial" I don't need an immediate answer, but it would be nice not have to wait for ever til someone sas they will look sometime. Why wait like that if no one can, so you can't move on? I think it is only fair to ask that of someone, which I never got. I am a very patient person if I hear that. It is when you get no reply what so ever, I am not. I think it is rude. Just like some of the ROAGK people. They are to reply or acknowledge out of respect. I am do know how to be cordial and I am respectful of others and am actually a very nice person. And yes, I can wait 6 months...if that is what it takes, thank you. Thanks Jaimee

I live in South Dakota and have spent the last week without power in sub freezing temperatures. ANYWAY. -- "Calvin Thomas Hutchinson was born on December 24, 1829. On March 1, 1860 he recieved his master's certificate as a Sail Vessel Master (Captain) from the Board of Lake Underwriters (Great Lakes) in Buffalo, New York." --- This is the opening chapter of a column and a quarter history on Calvin Hutchinson in the book "From Past to Present - a History of Adams County." Published by the Adams County Historical Society. This well researched article does not mention any parents for Calvin, but does mention the parents of his wife, so it may be that his parents were not recorded. You may wish to get in touch with the historical society to see how to obtain further information. I suggest that you be more cordial in your approach. I will be going to Adams County in the next 6 months to a year to do some personal family research. If you wish, I will do the courthouse look-up for you at that time.
