    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Day Ault Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XEC.2ACE/127.2.1 Message Board Post: I am a descendant of Elias Day, a brother of the Daniel Day who settled in Adams Co. Elias Day and his family moved from Athens Co. OH to Wapello Co. IA in the mid-1850s, and two of his sons moved from there to Wisconsin a few years later -- Daniel to Richland Co. and Calvin to Monroe Co. Calvin was my gr-grandfather. I'm currently working on a DAR application and am stuck on specific evidence linking Elias to his father Samuel Day. The Linda Berg Stafford book printed several versions of the "Lists of 20" -- including copies of lists maintained by member of Daniel Day/Elizabeth Ault's descendants. Through another Day family researcher, I've obtained copies of some of the corresponden ce Ms. Stafford had with Marion Tenwitsch (sp?) which included handwritten transcriptions of the lists, but my DAR mentor is reluctant to accept these as "valid" proofs -- even though I have it on good authority that one other person used these copies successfully in her application! Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone out there has photocopies or photos of the actual Bible those lists of 20 came from? I'm trying to follow up on any and all leads in this respect. In return, or even if anyone is interested, I have lots of info on the Day connections in Monroe Co. WI and Wapello Co. IA. I also have the relevant documentation this family needs for an approved Mayflower application -- if that is of interest to anyone. In addition, I have contact info for other descendants of Daniel Day's sibilings -- including Israel and Eleanor; and also have info on the current gurus of the Loree family--also coveren in the Berg-Stafford book. Look forward to hearing from any and all Day connections.

    1. Update on Wisconsin Vital Records Index
    2. Melissa McLimans
    3. Hello Again, After several suggestions from our patrons, we have added a spouse search to our Wisconsin Pre-1907 Vital Records Index at www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords. Now if you find a bride or groom, you can click on the spouse search option toward the bottom of the page. The database is then searched for records that have matching dates, counties, volumes and counties to narrow down possible mates. Of course, it is not a perfect search, for three specific reasons. First, not all marriages were indexed under both names. It is not uncommon for the bride to not have been indexed. Second, sometimes there are more than one match to the date, county, volume and page. This is especially true in larger counties. And, finally, there are indexing errors that limit matches. However, we hope this upgrade will make it easier for researchers to figure out which marriage record is the right one, and may even give some leads on spouses. Let me know if you have any questions. I don't think any one cared at the time it happened. Neighbors thought that the family had done it but no one charged a family member for doing it nor anyone else. It was lazy police work. The present Sheriff is interested but has little evidence to work with. Who were your grandparents? My daughther still has one of her stocking dolls.

    2. Barbara Brady
    3. Is there someone who could look up & copy the information from a death record for me? It would be for Merril Richmond who died 19 Dec. 1899, Adams county. I found a reference that it is in Vol. 4B and page 7. I can't afford to spend $7 for a copy of it, just need that info. Thanks

    1. Marriages Added to Vital Records Index
    2. Melissa McLimans
    3. We at the Wisconsin Historical Society are so excited to announce the addition of marriage records to the Wisconsin Pre-1907 Vital Records Index located at www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords. That's right; marriages can now be searched along with birth and death records. Plus, we have added counties previously unavailable in other online databases and the 1970s microfiche index. Now, you can look for marriages in counties Richland through Winnebago at the same time you search for marriages from the rest of the state. Marriages, dating between 1836 and September 30, 1907, are indexed by both the bride and groom names, wherever possible. Therefore, in most cases, there will be two entries for one marriage; one for the bride and one for the groom. There are some counties that were not indexed by bride's name, but our excellent volunteers are working to correct that as well. The new marriage index, like its companions, began as a 1970s microfiche publication. The Schoenleber Foundation of Milwaukee generously provided funds to convert them to electronic form, so now genealogists have free public access to information on more than a half a million marriages, 400,000 Wisconsin deaths, as well as more than 1 million births. Happy searching and let us know how everything works. There are bound to be some errors, but now that the index is in the digital age, fixing index problems is quite simple (unfortunately, fixing errors on the original records is still impossible!). Best wishes, Melissa McLimans Manager, Wisconsin Genealogical Research Service Wisconsin Historical Society

    1. cemetery records and burial permits (?)
    2. Carol Kredt
    3. Hi, everyone - I have the problem that a great-great grandfather and his oldest son are buried in Adams or Waushara Counties in some little country graveyard with no grave markers. Recently I remembered that someone had suggested checking for burial permits in similar situations (which I have not done as yet). Perhaps this would be a route that others might want to explore. HOWEVER, Whom does one contact for such documents (someone at the county level?) and for what time periods would these be available? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (The above burials took place in 1861 and 1893/94 respectively.) Carol in Canada
