This factory was erected in 1916 and has had no small part in the progress of the agricultural community surrounding the village. It has operated every year since starting except one.This summer they plan to use a truck to gather the milk of the patrons. It is of brick construction, 46 feet by 71 feet, two stories, with a full basement for storage of merchandise. Between the first and second floor is an ample balcony for the office of the manager of the store, J A Marcott, beneath which is another store room. The main floor is taken up with the grocery, dry goods and similar departments, and the entire second floor is devoted to the storage and display of furniture. Throughout the entire interior the building is beautifully finished. The building was financed and the construction supervised by O L Hotz, after whose son, Loren, the building has been named. Work was started on the foundation in the spring of last year by Karl Hanson, who suicided about a year ago, and then the contruction was carried on by the architect, Albert Bjooras, of Chippewa Falls. Mr Hotz himself personally supervised the completion of the hotel. The hotel is of brick and tile construction, 50 by 60, full basement and two floors. On the front is a double porch 40 by 114. All the equipment and accoutrements of the building are modern in every respect, steam heat, electric lights, hot and cold running water and individual telephones in each room. The basement which is occupied by Mr Underwood's barber shop and billard parlor and soda fountain, is also fitted with shower baths in connection with the barber shop. The spacious lobby on the main floor is furnished with 8 over stuffed leather rockers and a large davenport of the same material, writing tables, etc. The dining room has an uncrowded capacity for 32 diners. The completely equipped kitchen and four living rooms for the proprietor complete the main floor. On the second floor are the rooms for the guests, four rooms with bath and ten without. The business is conducted by O O H Underwood, an experienced hotel man. She was keeping house for Mrs Selinski during her absence. Mike and Joe Pulaski and Herbert Geibel were Ladysmith callers on Saturday. Fred Miller went to Ladysmith and Weyerhauser Saturday and Sunday, returning home on Monday morning. Lester Loux bought a feed grinder from Mr Clipse, Friday. Mrs Mary Girard and family of Bruce drove to the L Miller home on Saturday afternoon, they returned home the same evening. August Selinski hauled bolts to Thornapple dam, Monday. Miss Stevens spent the weekend at her home in Thornapple. Her grandfather was buried Monday and she attended the funeral so we did not have school until Tuesday. Mr Wester fixed the school house door on Sunday afternoon; when he finished, he called at the Miller home for a few minutes. Mr and Mrs L Miller visited with Mrs Carl Miller, Saturday. Mr and Mrs Merle Jones from Ladysmith motored through this neighborhood on Sunday, they were gong to the Tom Jones home. A large snow drift near Pulaski's mail box refused to let them pass with the car. J Pulaski took them the remainder of the eay with the team. Joe thinks Merle must have stripped the gears. Mike Pulaski called at the Carl Miller home, Monday. Mr Taylor left on Thursday for Platteville for a few days visit with his family. Job Miller was a Bruce caller on Wednesday. Fred Martin has purchased the Klinger place and house on the old fair grounds and will move his family there in the near future. Clyde Goin will start his saw mill on April 2nd and expects to be quite busy for a time. Paul Christianson of Ladysmith, spent Sunday here. Ed Arpin went to Rhinelander onTuesday where he transacted business. Fred La Blanc of Murry is visiting his son and daughter, Peter Le Blanc and Mrs A McDonald for a few days. Fred and William Dubois of Minneapolis arrived in Bruce Tuesday to visit old friends and to transact business. Stanley Braier moved his family back to town. Milo Witter returned from Weyerhauser on Wednesady. The Fred Apker family from Weyerhauser have moved to Bruce and are comfortably settled in the Ferres home. Lee Joyner returned to his home in Superior on Wednesday after having spent several weeks visitng his brothers, Clarence and Duane. Mr Chase is patrolman number 12 on highway 40. Mrs Eno of Elder Creek spent a few days in Bruce as a guest of Mrs Chas. Baxter. Joe Arpin is moving his family back from Milwaukee to their home in Atlanta. Alex Skell of Bruce is patrolman number 7 on highway 14. Miss Florence Chapman was a Ladysmith caller, Saturday. Mrs Oscar Campbell of Couderay arrived in Bruce on Thursday to visit at the home of her father in law Frank Campbell. Anna Doorn and Pertila McEwen spent Friday in Bruce the guest of Mrs kate Moore. Dr Hansen returned from his trip to St Paul and La Crosse, Tuesday. Ed Arpin is on the sick list with a sprained back. Mr and Mrs Jacob Searles of Wisconsin Rapids arrived in Bruce on Friday to spend a few days with their daughter, Mrs Duckart. Little Donald Duckart who has been wiht his grandparents since Christmas came back with them. C L Chappelow of Frankin, Indiana arrived in Bruce Saturday for a ten days' visit. E W Richardson of the Journal staff of Ladysmith was in town on Friday between trains. Mr and Mrs Ferris have moved to the Compton farm in New Hutchinson. Father S A Girouard of Bruce, was a Ladysmith caller on Monday. Joseph Lancaster and sisters, returned to their school duties in Michigan, after being absent several weeks on account of the illnes and death of their mother. Louis Vaughan and Nellie Applebee of Exeland, were quietly married at the home of Mr Vaughans's sister on Saturday March 17th. Rev James Hansen officiated. Mr and Mrs Vaughan will make their home on the Joe Galman farm this summer. Nellie Applebee is a niece of Mrs Lula Hawley. The M e Ladies Aid will meet with Mrs John Daily on Thursday. Rev Taylor of Rice Lake, will hold a three weeks' revival meeting at the M E chuch in Bruce. Miss Beth Crowell spent the weekend at home. P C Roberts is planning on going back to Canada to live as soon as he can make the necessary arrangments and either sell or rent his farm. Elmer Peterson was a Weyerhauser caller,Saturday. Jack Berg, of Ladysmith was in town all of last week repairing telephone lines and phones. Mrs Kate Moore went to Minneapolis on Sunday to enter a hospital for treatment. Mrs Sidney Caley delightully entertained a number of lady friends at a flinch party on Tuesday at her home. A dainty lunch was served. Mrs Etta Hanson won first prize and Mrs B Campbell carried off the consolation prize. Mrs A Chase entertained anumber of her lady friends at a flinch party at her home on Thursday. Mrs Sidney Caley carried off the first prize while Mrs Mike Witter won the consolation.
