The accident occurred on highway 93 between Trempealeau and Holmen while Miller was en route to the newspaper's annual picnic at the Trempealeau cottage of Frank H Burgess,publisher. Miller was a native of Louisiana. Mr and Mrs Ralph Leland of Eau Claire have been visiting with relatives and friends in the city. On their return they will be accompanied by Mrs Helen Goodnough who will spend a short time visiting with them. The Misses Ann and grace Jacobs left Monday for St Paul, after spending the summer months at their home in the city. Both are teachers in the St Paul city schools. Miss Irene Ungrodt left last weekend for Medford where she is a teacher in the public schools. Mrs J B Sprague of Milwaukee left Monday morning for her home after visiting since Thursday with Mr and Mrs Eben Burdick. Mr and Mrs Ralph Simoneau and son of Milwaukee returned to their home after visiting with his mother, Mrs Charles Simoneau.They were accompanied by their daughter, Gertrude who has been spending the summer with her grandmother. Mr and Mrs William Morris of DePere spent the weekend in the city with his parents, Mr and Mrs C F Morris. District Attorney Robert A Nixon was a business visitor in Grand View on Tuesday. In the finals he encountered Harry Keeman who had come up via Tom Humphrey and William Nordby whom he elimninated. To defeat Roen,Lockhart shot a 76 in his first 18 Sunday 39 and 37. Roen got a 44 and 41. In the finale Monday morning, Lockhart shot a 43 and 43 while Keenan's score card showed a 44 and 45. Thirty six holes were played Sunday and 18 for the finals Monday. The qualifying rounds were played Saturday. Otto Pearson won the second flight honors by elimninating Arthur Rabbideau and George Holder. The other entries in this flight were Willoughby Stoltz, Logeman and Van Heuklom. In the beaten four, Roen eliminated Starr and Patterson took Humphrey and Roen lost to Patterson. This was the first flight. In the second,Willoughy beat Arthur and Stoltz beat Van Heuklom. Mr and Mrs Noble Chance attended a bridal shower at balsam Lake Sunday in honor of Mrs E Larson, the former Frances Hoey. Mr Larson is in the army is stationed in Alaska. Mr and Mrs Carl Herzog have purchased the house formerly occupied by Mrs J O Anderson and have already moved into their new home and are remodeling it for their convenience. Miss Isadore Anderson who is employed at the Augsburg College in Minneapolis spent the week end with her parents, Mr and Mrs C W Anderosn on South Twin Lake. Mrs Adolph Hedlund returned Saturdy evening from St Paul where she had been visiting her father, Mr Frank Westerlund who si in very poor health. Edsel Grummons of Glenwood City and Margaret Johnson of Amery accompanied by Mr and Mrs Oscar Johnson and Vernon of Amery route 4,made a north shore trip in Sawyer county last week end. Laurence Hedlund who has been employed at the Northern Pump Co in Minneapolis for the past two years, arrived home for a two day visit with his parents, Mr and Mrs Adolph Hedlund. He was accompanied by Miss Ardis Larson, also of Minnepaolis. On Wednesday morning,Laurence left for Fort Snelling from where he will be sent to a camp in Texas as a memeber of the air corp. Sorry Mrs Olstad is not getting along so well after her operation. Inez, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Schock had an operation at the Amery hospital on Wednesday for a ruptured appendix.
