A number of friends held a surprise farewell party on Harriet Mount at the H J Hayman home Friday evening. Bunco and Flea were played, after which lunch was served. A number of young folks of this village gave a suprise party for Rose Hazel at the Community hall Thursday in honor of her 15th birthday. A buffet supper was served, after which games were played. The Dresser Junction PTA met Monday evening at the school house. The program consisted of the following: vocal solos,John LaRue duet,Mrs Robert Soderburg and Lauritz Hansen mouth organ selections,Fred Horseman and a talk Peace by Mrs Mable Oakie Traiser of Osceola. Mr and Mrs H J Will left Wednesday for Hot Springs Arkansas where they will remain a few months for Mr Wills' health. Mr and Mrs L V Glanville and daughter,Leona and LeRoy Swanson motored to St Paul Saturday where Mr Glanville, attended to a few business matters,after which they attended the ice carnival. Miss Harriet Mount left Friday evening for Goodman Wisconsin where she will stay with her grandparents for a while until she joins her parents, Mr and Mrs Caton Mount at Crandon where they moved from here Sunday evening. Myron Leach,who left a short time ago with Derald Harris on a motor trip to Chicago to seek employment has sent word home that he is now employed in that city. Mr and Mrs Arthur Nykreim and daughter and Miss Lillian Hanson of St Paul were recent guests at the Lauritz Hanson home. The water works project started in this village this past week.The well is being drilled near the village hall. Mrs Mable Oakie Traiser of Osceola gave a series of interesting talks in the Dresser Junction public school Friday afternoon on her trips to New York and of her visit to the quintuplets. The house was a two story building and burned rapidly,being completely burned before the firemen were ready with aid. The South End department and a company from the West End answered the alarm but were unable to do much because the house was out of the water district. The retail liquor dealer's association is holding a meeting Thursday afternoon in the Ritchie building. The principal business will be the consideration of their mandamus case which they will bring up to the supereme court. There will be an apple sociel at the home of Mr and Mrs Buell Thursday for the benefit of the young peoples society of the Emmanuel Baptist church. There will be a meeting of the Dougla County Agricultural society at the office of James H Agen in the Agen block Saturday. All directors and vice presidents of the last fair are requested to be present at the meeting. Rogers dashed from his bed to the kitchen when he heard the explosion and led his wife,Selma and three of the children outdoors.Then he noticed the youngest,Richard was missing. He returned into the smoke filled house and found the child partly overcome near the kitchen. He carried him to safety. Mrs Rogers said the explosion occurred while she was baking bread on a gasoline stove. Leaking gasoline probably caused the blast,firemen said. Fireman used buckets to dip from a well because there were no hydrants nearby. Damages is estimated at $1,800. Rogers who had been in bed with a severe cold, was at county General hospital Wednesday. Forty Superior barbers received instructions from Mr Russell during the semester. Chairman Ben H Hoffman introduced Mayor Bryn Ostby who talked briefly on the Vocational program and presented Mr Russell with a token of appreciation for his work as barber instructor. In response Mr Russell thanked the barbers fo rtheir cooperation and congraulated them on their work in the city. Frank Jewson and Rudolph Hanson of the Vocational school likewise congratulated the barbers on the progress made during the year and express the hope next year's attendance will warrant a special room for practice work. Refreshments were served following the business meeting. Mr Smith born in New Carlisle Ohio came to Superior with his parents in 1856 when he was three years old. He was employed in the first drug store in Duluth and later established his own pharmacy. Survivors include: two daughters, Pauline and Margaret Smith and a nephew William S McCormick all of Duluth. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 at the Crawford chapel in Duluth. Miss Marion Hendrickson of Eau Claire returned home Friday after a week's visit with Margaret Amundson John Sheffield,son,Shirley and daughter,Patsy went to Clarion Iowa Thursday to visit relatives and to bring back Peggy Sheffield who had been there for some time. Miss Lorraine Ehrhard is teaching again this year at the Pleasant Valley school;her school opened Monday Theordore Sorenson is principal of the Eagleton school Miss Enid Henderson will teach in a state graded school at Ruby. Mrs Emery Koehler, who has been visiting her mother,Mrs Mary King returned to Green Bay Friday. Her son,Gordon came after her. Miss Anna Gobernatz of Arnold is attending high school here this year and is staying at the Theodore Sorenson home. Mr and Mrs Edward Erickson and Mr and Mrs Elmer Blaisdell returned home Thusday after a three day trip to the southern part of the state. Hugh Leavens is driving a school bus this year. Forty students ride in the bus. There are 108 enrolled in high school. Mrs Sophius Hanson accompanied her son and wife,Mr and Mrs Ralph Hanson of Ridgeland to Milwaukee last week to visit relatives. Rev R E Parr and Mrs Leo Cartwright attended a district meeting of the Woman's Missionary society at Bloomer at the United Brethren church on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Arthur Sibley and daugher,Lela ,returned home from a year's stay in San Francisco and other places in the west. Myrtle Sibley remained in California where she has employment. Mr and Mrs Sibley will move to Menominie for the year where Lela will attend Stout Institute. Lt Merten Helmstead of Fort Sheridan Illinois spent the week end with his parents, Mr and Mrs P F Heimstead. Mrs Milton Jacobson attended the funeral of Herman Holt in Dover last Wednesday. Dorothy Riste has retuned from a week's visit at the Emil Fremming home in Chetek and a week's visit at the Freeman Fremming home in Mondovi.
