Whittington is one of eight children born to Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Carroll Whittington. Benjamin (senior), was born in Maryland, and at various times lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and settled in Indiana. Benjamin R. Whittington married Rebecca Dudley about 1830. They had six children, William Carroll, Elizabeth May (Betsy), Thomas, Mary J., July Ann, and Sarah Adeline. I have Sarah Adeline born about 1839. Rebecca and Sarah A. were mother and daughter. Benjamin R. Whittington settled in Franklin Co. Illinois with his brothers Joseph, and Thomas Azariah (Asa), in the 1820`s.
