Whittington and the second being her neice, the daughter of John D. According to my records, Cesar Hebert, b. 1882 Newton cty TX, had two children by Leathey Ann Rutledge (1841 MS-1909) -- Cesar (Jr. ?) and Lula May Hebert. So, my statement that Dalton Whittington's wife, Lula May, was a sister to Cesar was correct. This younger Cesar was the one that married Dalton's older sister, Ida. IOW, a brother and sister from both the Whittington and the Hebert family married ... Ida & Dalton Whittington m. Cesar & Lula May Hebert, respectively. ======= Now, pressing back into the matter of whether Elisha was a wascal or wat .... first, please understand that it matters not to me whether he (or Melina) were wascals or not .... but some of this does cause problems in our understanding of our heritage .... and especially for those of us descended from John D. Whittington & Delaware Princess Dangerfield -- it'd be nice to know for certain whether Elisha is one of our forefathers or not. Elisha's first two marriages: 1. Melina Dalton m. JUL 7 1824 *1* John Dalton Whittington (1824/25 - bef SEP 1873) Harbert F. Whittington (1825 - bet 1850 and 1853) Ida Whittington (bef 1831 - ) 2. Mary Milam m. ???? (bef 1828 ??) *2* John Whittington ( - ) Jane Whittington (abt 1828 - ) Ann Elizabeth Whittington (abt 1829 - ) Mary Josephine Whittington (AUG 10 1834 - 1877) Elisha David Whittington II (MAR 2 1834 - JUL 19 1918) *1* the first John Whittington, son of Melina, is placed there by me (see explanation below). *2* the second John Whittington, son of Mary Milam, comes from Mabel Thompson's book "Looking Back". *** .... I'm thinking the two John Whittingtons are one and the same, that Mabel Thompson's information was in error, and that he is my g-g-grandfather. We have proof that John Dalton Whittington is a descendant of Melina Dalton Whittington and we have census records indicating his dob 1824-1825. This would (could ??) make him the eldest child of Elisha & Melina. There is no other explanation that I can see. She was 18 in 1824. I suppose it's remotely possible that she got pregnant by someone else and Elisha then married her and gave him his surname ???? .... back to Ida .... her dob indicates she could be John's 1/2 sister by Mary Milam (or a full sister to Mabel Thompson's John). .... can anyone shed some more light on this ? thanks, Tom Cloud <[email protected]>
