Brenda and Mike, John G. Whittington was my gggrandfather and I don't believe he was ever in Alabama. According to Mrs. Thompson, John G. Whittington never married but I am living proof. Maybe all the facts were not available when the book was written. John G. married Ellen Susan Elliott on Jan. 26, 1855 in Newton, Newton, Texas. They went back to Alexandria, La. and were in the 1860 Rapides census with two sons, Clinton and Alonzo C. Another son was born in 1861 and my ggrandmother in 1864. J. G. died about 1866. Pat Raney
