Her father was George Whittington and her mother was Eliza France Smith. Eliza Smith was married to a Howard not Whittington. I was told that my grandmother was half Cherokee. There is a George Whittington on the Dawes Act record card #358. I believe this is her father. The story was told to me that my grandmother was great grandmother was kidnapped by the Cherokees and birthed my grandmother by a Cherokee named George Whittington. Then my great grandmother was released with her daughter and married a Caucasion man who's surname was Howard. My grandmother kept her maiden name of Whittington. My grandmother later married my grandfather who's surname was Cole. Can you help me on proving my Cherokee ancestry, or give me some direction on doing this? I would really appreciate the help.
