I read the original census and bingo there is a child named Virgil, James (Jimmy), Emma and Alice was born 19 Nov 1850 after this census was taken. I believe this is Alice's family. I am wondering if Aisley could be a pet name for Alice, and her name could have been Emma Alice WHITTINGTON?? I believe the William C. would be William Chapman OLIVER and one of the girls was Josephine like Frances Josephine (Josey). James Knox Polk SHELTON md. Sarah Alice OLIVER 5 Jan 1875 in Ellis Co. TX. Alice was b. in GA Children: James Virgil, Lillie, Minnie, William C and Archie. (James KP's granddaughter told me Alice had siblings named: Rebecca, Josie, Jimmy. With the name similarities it seems to fit.) If there are any Oliver's or Whittington's researching the line of William C. Oliver please contact me. Would the person on the list who sent me information on this census whose husband wrote the book KETCHES OF THE OLIVERS. please contact me. Since I feel certain this is the family I would like to know if there is any further information on this family in the book. Much appreciation to the list~~Dee Colvin in N. E. Texas . William C. Whittington's husband, Anderson SMITH. She is mentioned briefly in both. My friend that descends from this couple says Sarah died 15 Apr 1914 and is buried in the Enterprise Cemetery (Oregon). We had hoped to find our sons were related thru the SMITH line but I have enjoyed finding clues to their ancestry as well. Hope this may be of help to you in filling in this branch of your WHITTINGTON's. Whittington is one of eight children born to Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Carroll Whittington. Benjamin (senior), was born in Maryland, and at various times lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and settled in Indiana. Benjamin R. Whittington married Rebecca Dudley about 1830. They had six children, William Carroll, Elizabeth May (Betsy), Thomas, Mary J., July Ann, and Sarah Adeline. I have Sarah Adeline born about 1839. Rebecca and Sarah A. were mother and daughter. Benjamin R. Whittington settled in Franklin Co. Illinois with his brothers Joseph, and Thomas Azariah (Asa), in the 1820`s.

One is Rebecca (DUDLEY) WHITTINGTON who was first married to Benjamin R. WHITTINGTON and after his death in 1840 she married Benjamin SMITH. Later Benjamin SMITH's son (Anderson) marries Sarah A. WHITTINGTON (b. 6 Nov 1841?). How are these two WHITTINGTON's related? I'm trying to learn where the SMITH families came from (before Illinois). Does anyone know where these WHITTINGTON families came from? Thanks for help. Denise
In searching tor information on the parents of Sarah Alice Oliver, I have located a marriage that is a possibility. Alice's parents were Chapman Oliver and Emma Whittington. They were from either Alabama or Georgia. Alice was born 19 Nov 1850 in Georgia. Three siblings were believed to be Jimmy, Josie and Rebecca. There were at least 10 children in this family who came to Texas in 1863. The marriage I located was William C. Oliver married Elsey Whittington on 11 May 1828 in Pike County Georgia. Alice and her husband James KP SHELTON had a son named William C. Is anyone researching this family who may be able to give me more information? TNKS~~Dee Colvin

There seemed to be a fascination for the name Richard. My line branched off with Richard II's son Solomon. Ray
