    3. These names are not familiar, but the states they resided in are. What County were they in in GA and AL. My husband's ggrandmother was an Oliver, and her mother was a Whittington. They were in Pike Co. GA and md. there 11 May 1828. William C. Oliver md. Elsey Whittington. I believe this may be Chapman Oliver and Emma Whittington. On the 1840 Pike Co. GA census they are living next door to Thaddius "Faddy" Whittington Junior and Senior. I believe this to be Emma's father and grandfather. In 1800 there was a will proved in in Johnston Co NC ~~The will of James Rosser named his wife Alice, their daughter Rebecca Rosser and Rebecca's husband "Faddy" Whittington. I know the Oliver's came to Texas in about 1863 (documented). TheOliver's were in Cherokee Co. AL in 1850 on census, but Sarah Alice said she was born in 1850 in GA, so whether they went back to GA before her birth or not I do not know at this point. She was born in Nov. after the 1850 census. I have been unable to find them on census in 1860 thus far. So I am not sure where they were living before coming to TX in 1863. Nor do I know if any of the Whittington's came with them or not. Thaddius "Faddy" Whittington Sr lived to be 105 years I believe. Whether Thaddius could connect to Earl down the line I do not know. But wanted to share the information just in case it could help you or someone else. ~~Dee Colvin ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 24, 2001 4:44 PM Subject: Re: Whittington's in AL > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TUWBAIB/662.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Laura, you asked about an Earl Whittington. He and wife Mary settled in North Hampton co. on the E. shore of Virginia and was a member of the Board of Commissioners in 1654 and captain of the militia the same year." __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Surnames: WHITTINGTON, ROSSER, OLIVER, SHELTON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TUWBAIB/663 Message Board Post: William C. OLIVER md. Elsey WHITTINGTON 11 May 1828 in Pike Co. GA. Sons: Wm, Thaddius, Virgil, Charles, James and Stirling. Daughters: Frances, Rebecca, Emma and I believe Sarah Alice who was born 19 Nov 1850. This family found in Cherokee Co. AL page 125 Dist 23 of the 1850 census. In 1840 census of Pike Co. GA they are listed next to Thaddius "Faddy" Whittington Sr and Jr. I believe the "Faddy" Whittington who married Rebecca Rosser is perhaps Sarah Alice Oliver's grandmother and grandfather. Name similarities and locations are very convincing evidence that this is true. Sarah Alice OLIVER md. James Knox Polk SHELTON 5 Jan 1875 in Ellis Co. TX. She was born in either AL or GA, and her parents were Chapman OLIVERand Emma WHITTINGTON both born in GA. I believe William C. OLIVER to be the father of Sarah Alice. I am seeking any one researching these families so that we can colobrate on genealogy information. Sincerely~~Dee Colvin

The problem here is the wife of this John Whittington is shown to be Elizabeth Whittington, dau of Joshua Whittington and Elizabeth Nairne. This is problematic in that Joshua Whittington & Elizabeth Nairne married circa 1753, both being born circa 1715. Their daughter, Elizabeth Whittington, was born circa 1760. This John Whittington married his Elizabeth Whittington in 1723, when Joshua Whittington and Elizabeth Nairne were only 8 years old and some 37 years prior to their daughter Elizabeth's birth! IOW, from what I can see, this is an impossible relationship! ???? can someone help me with this ? Tom Cloud <[email protected]>
