A lady & her daughter, showed me where the cemetary. The mother said that someone from Alabama came and clean it up once a year, she can't remember there names. she also said that the electric or water company did the damage to the graves when they put new lines down. She called the historical society. Does anyone know the conection with the Whittington and Simerly's in Crawford county ga. I have researched this family back to the 1730s in Bedford Co. VA and their entire history is in my book, "Everyone's A Whittington," which is available. Also, two of the male descendants of this family have had their DNA tested and they match; neither of them has Indian DNA. For those who may not be familiar with Y-DNA testing, it follows the male line from the earliest ancestors right up to current times. DNA indicates that our Whittington family originated in England and does not contain Indian ancestry on the Whittington side. 3. Hi Sarah, Your Whittington family evidently does not have Indian ancestry. mine does without a doubt.  That does not mean that we are unrelated, only that a Whittington split off and went south to NC and took up with an Indian woman and went on to SC and then from there to Georgia and Mississippi and on to Louisiana and Texas.  I am not a male Whittington so my DNA would be useless as far as tracking the male Whittington line.  My Grandfather's mother was a Whittington and she was known to be of Indian ancestry, and my Grandfather looked like an Indian,  dark reddish brown skin, black eyes, and coarse black hair.  My father was like his father and I am like that except to a much lesser degree.  There are many Whittington's in south Louisiana and Mississippi who exhibitss these same characteristics. Our Whittington's go back to a Whittington who was a white man with no Indian blood, probably in Virginia somewhere.  Grief Whittington was a Revolutionary war veteran and I have the papers on him.  We do not know for sure who his father and mother were.  Grief is the progenitor of all the Whittington's I have talked about above.  We know for sure where he came from and that was SC.  Before SC we do not know for sure. Good luck in your quest for Whittington knowledge. My g-grandfather full name is Green C Whittington dob 1837 born in Knoxville, Crawford County Georgia and he married Nevi Anise Merritt, in Aug 3, 1856 in Crawford County, Georgia, but my grandfather Winder Jefferson's second wife my grand mother said he told her that they called his mom Manvera. She said he died when Winder was approx 11 yrs old and his step mom Sarah Aultman left him at a cementary in Knoxville, GA and a man pick him up and he lived with them. But Winder shows up in 1910 census married to a Lillie Westberry in Stockton, GA. Then Lillie died in 10/1921. I can't find a marriage certificate for Winder and my grand mother Emma Williams.
