Hi.. I'm searching for my gggg grandmother, Eliza Whitney who was born 18 Apr 1806. The death record in Charlevoix, Michigan says she was born in Vermont. Her first husband was Samuel Alonzo Arnold, Sr. They were marrried abt. 1823 in New York. Eliza's 2 sons, Alvah and Samuel Jr were both born in Monroe County, NY. They migrated from NY to Macomb County, then moved to St. Clair County, MI later. Because the family were experiencing financial hardships, Samuel Sr decided to go back to NY with another man. The two left on foot and were never heard from again. After Samuel Sr's disappearance, Eliza married Elias Rice. Eliza died on 18 Nov 1872 in Charlevoix, Michigan. I'm searching for Eliza Whitney's parents possibly in Vermont or near Vermont. I've been keeping on eye on the postings of the Whitney people, but no luck. If you can help keep an eye on possible matches of Eliza Whitney's parents, please let me know. If you know of a possible Whitney family that Eliza would fit in, please let me know. Thanks, Holly
Holly, I am from Charlevoix county Michigan. My ancestor James Ingalls moved from Clayton, Jefferson county, NY, to what is now Genesee county Michigan in 1835. James Ingalls had a neighbor named Amasa Whitney. I have been trying to get more info on him, but nothing worthwhile yet. Amasa was not listed in any census for Genesee county. James Ingalls son, my ancestor Henry Ingalls, and Henry's brother William moved to Antrim county Michigan from Genesee county Michigan (east of Flint) after the Civil War. He was listed in the 1870 census for Banks Twp, Antrim, Michigan. Eliza could have been a daughter of Amasa, and they could have moved to Michigan with my ancestor James Ingalls, and to Antrim county with Henry and William Ingalls, also. Just something to check. Have you done all possible census research on your Whitney's?
