For all you Maine researchers!! Picton Press has announced that they are selling CDs of "Original Records of Maine Towns and Cities." Here is their description: "All of the town and vital records which exist for nearly all of Maine's towns are now available to you in CD format using Adobe PDF. These are the images of original town records (usually handwritten by clerks, many before the year 1892) and are usually NOT typewritten. Clerk's handwriting varies with some being quite good and relatively easy to read while others are more difficult. Also, the quality of each image depends on the quality of the records in the original books and the filming of those books. In many cases ink has faded over time or pages have been torn or worn from use. Also included on these CDs is a map of Maine showing the counties, a map of the county showing the location of the town, city or plantation, an introduction and bookmarks to sections in the original books." The prices range from $29.50 for a single CD to a few hundred dollars for sets of CDs covering some of the larger groups of records. See <http://www.pictonpress.com> for further details. There are about 400 (yes, FOUR HUNDRED!) towns represents in this collection. What a fabulous resource for genealogical research! It would be terrific to get WHITNEY extracts from all of them and to post them on the WRG web site. That would be a lot of work, but very valuable to have. Regards, Robert Mr. Robert L.
