In reply to Jo who asks: "Does anyone on the list own the CDs for Alexander, ME and/or Vassalboro, ME Vital Records? Or have access to the VRs for these 2 towns?" I have the Alexander book, but not Vassalboro. On pages 90 (refers to page 153 in the records of 1812-1861)& 114 (refers to page 22 of the records of 1784-1885)it says: Family Record of Henry P. Whitney Henry Payson Whitney born at Warwick, Mass Sept 5th 1820 Margaret H Bohanan born May 21 1824 They were married Jan 20th 1850 and have Children as follows Viz Henry Mason Whitney born Nov 20 1850 Annie Frederika Whitney Sept 25 1852 Abigail Elizabeth Whitney born April 9th 1854 Amelia Eliza Whitney born March 3d 1856 Sarah Agnes Whitney born March 1st 1858 Mary Almira Whitney born May 24th 1860 Annie & Abby Whitney Died Sept 12th 1863 Sarah Agnes Whitney Died Sept 1863 Margaret Angelia born Octo [no year] It also has them in the 1850 (no children) with Henry being a Teacher &1860 census with children and Henry being a farmer, but not the 1870 or after. Henry is in the index numerous other times because he was the town clerk or justice of the peace. Henry and Margarets intentiion was published: Published Henry P Whitney Esq and Miss Margaret H Bohanaon both of Alexander Dec 26 1849 [page 180 of the records, page 99 of the book] On page 107 of the book is Margarets family (Margaret Hall Bohanon), let me know if you would like those records. Adrian Thanks so much. I had everything that you found, just not those two elusive death dates. H.P. moved his family around quite a bit, so I know where he was in the 1870 and later census records. I am assuming from what you found that Amelia and Harry did not die while the family lived in Alexander. Amelia most likely died in Boston or Vassalboro, Harry probably as well although he was 19 and he could have been off to school someplace when he died. I also have the Bohanon line, so I don't believe I need those records, a Bohanon cousin had them. I appreciate your help very much. I was hoping to find those dates in Alexander but I will keep searching. Wow - I looked at that a third time and suddenly something bizarre jumped out at me which I just had not seen before. The record states that SARAH AGNES Whitney died in Sept 1863. But she did not. She married, had 2 children, and lived to be 82 years old. She died in Minneapolis, MN in 1940. I have a copy of her death certificate and several other reports of her death, including the account of my mother who was 16 at the time. I bet that solves my question... that the wrong child was reported as having died. Amelia was exactly 2 years older than Agnes, and since 2 other girls had died within that same month, you can almost understand the reporting of the wrong child in the confusion of the family loss. It doesn't give a date, just a month and year, but Abby and Annie died on the 12th so Amelia would have been the other child to die in the same month, either before or after, although reported lter if this is chronological. The other daughters in that family all lived to adulthood in Minnesota. Funny, I looked at that and looked at it and the names were all so familiar to me that I just didn't see what that said right away. THANKS ADRIAN!
