Well Robert's info means, Nancy, that you and I are related from two sides, if this indeed is your grandfather's line. My maternal grandmother was a Whitney: John (& Elinor) 1, Benjamin 2, John 3, Samuel 4, John 5, John 6, Sedate 7, Moses 8, Charles 9, Irene (my grandmother) 10. My father was a Chapman, and we can trace his direct line back to Nathaniel (son of Edward Chapman) who was a brother to Johnny Appleseed's (and Sarah Chapman's) g-g-grandfather. The more I search, the more "small worlds" I find. Love it. Lanie -------Original Message------- From: Robert L. If that *is* your grandfather as a child, then his lineage would be John-1 WHITNEY, m.(1) Elinor ----- John-2 WHITNEY, m. Ruth REYNOLDS Nathaniel-3 WHITNEY, m.(1) Sarah HAGAR William-4 WHITNEY, m. Martha PEIRCE Samuel-5 WHITNEY, m. Abigail FLETCHER Phinehas-6 WHITNEY, m. Elizabeth RAND John-7 WHITNEY, m. Sarah CHAPMAN William-8 WHITNEY, m. Jane CHEFFY or CHUFFEY George W.-9 WHITNEY, m. Harriet R. OSBURN Harry E.-10 WHITNEY You can find more about this family by searching for "Sarah Chapman" at the WRG web site <http://www.whitneygen.org/search.html>. Sandy Fahrnbruch <[email protected]> of the Whitney Research Group is a descendant of John-7 WHITNEY's brother Thomas-7, so is a relatively close cousin. It turns out that Sarah CHAPMAN above was a half-sister of John CHAPMAN, alias Johnny Appleseed. I hope this helps! Regards, Robert Mr. Robert L.
