That information would appear on their marriage record. I found that William A. WHITNEY and Fannie E. YOUNG were married in 1895 in Chelsea, MA. You should obtain a copy of that record from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I looked for Fannie E. YOUNG in the 1880 Census. Given that the marriage occurred in Chelsea, this seems to be the right family: Chelsea, Suffolk Co., MA, Film #T9-0562, page 428D William J. YOUNG Self M Male W 39 MA Sail Maker ME MA Aeabie YOUNG Dau S Female W 13 MA At School MA ME Fanny YOUNG Dau S Female W 8 MA At School MA ME Oscar YOUNG Son S Male W 5 MA MA ME Susan W. YOUNG Mother W Female W 65 ME Keeping House ME ME You should look at the original census film because transcription is likely to be difficult. Especially the name of Fanny's older sister seems to be garbled. I am puzzled by the fact that William's data says his mother was born in MA, while Susan, his stated mother, says that she was born in ME. I am also puzzled that William is said to be married, not widowed, yet his wife is absent, despite the presence of small children. I did find that a certain Fannie M. YOUNG died in Chelsea in 1878. She would be a good candidate for William's wife and Fannie E. YOUNG's mother. Second choice would be Sarah E. YOUNG who died in Chelsea in 1877. Those death records would be revealing as to age at death, place of birth, and parentage. Good luck! Regards, Robert Mr. Robert L. Ward rlward AT whitneygen DOT org http://www.whitneygen.org/home.html
