Cayuga and Ontario. In particular the Cayuga County NY town of Semipronious was divided into three other counties in a period of about ten years. And Ontario County NY was the parent of about thirteen other counties. Ontario at the time mentioned in the original message of this thread was everything West of the Pre-emption line. Thus, almost all western ounties were part of it. The "Guide to the US Federal Census" mapbook tells it all. And the Gazateer by French has a lot of information on this topic.
