Thank you for the clarification, George. Since I used the first transcription of the VRs, I was misled. This is obviously the birth record of Abigail (Wilder) Whitney -- not the death of Abigail (Fletcher) Whitney. We know that Samuel Whitney and Abigail Fletcher were married in Weston, according to the Weston VRs, and that they were both "of Weston". I see his death on 1 Jan 1782 in Westminster, but also cannot find a record of her death. Somewhere along the way I have noted the inventory of his estate was taken, and that in 1784 receipt of the estate was taken by the children. I think this is why I may have thought Abigail Fletcher died before the estate was settled. I suppose she may have remarried. Maybe someday this puzzle will be solved. Thanks again - and I will correct my records. Under births we find: Abigail, w. Samuel ____ ____, 1783 G.S.4 Samuel, ____ ____, 1783 G.S.4 Under marriages we find Samuel Whitney m Abigail Wilder Aug 12, 1802 (my wedding anniversary!) Under births we find Abigail Wilder dau Caleb and Elisabeth bap Mar 16 1783 C.R. Under the deaths there are references only to children of Samuel and Abigail, not Samuel and Abigail themselves. Under births we find the following children of Samuel and Abigail: Samuel Oct 28 1802 (d Sep 3 1805) (This birth conflicts with marriage date, unless ...) Merrick Dec 31 1804 Jane Vincent Woodard Aug 1 1807 (d Sep 10 1810) Samuel Feb 25 1810 (d Dec 7 1810) Austin Dec 21 1811 (d Sep 7 1814) Charles Wilder Jan 10 1814 Austin 2nd Apr 19 1816 Jane July 7 1818 (d Nov 13 1847) Samuel Vincent May 25 1820 Quincy Oct 7 1822 Horatio Nelson Oct 3 1824 I looked in adjoining towns to see if there were death records there for Samuel/Abigail but did not find any. Are you sure this is the right Samuel and Abigail for you? If you expect a death in 1783 this family is two or three generations younger. Also, as noted, this Abigail is a Wilder, not a Fletcher. There does not seem to be an older Samuel/Abigail Whitney family in the Ashburnham VRs. George Parker (6 or 7 lines to John/Elinor)
