    3. Very new and I have no idea what I am doing but will give it a try. My Mother was a Whitney and I had no information about her famil y until recently. My Grandfather was born at Rochester, Vt. and I am interested in any Vermont Whitneys. This past July I made a trip to Vermont to find where he was buried and what was the cause of death. I found both so am extremely happy, a bonus was the house where they lived and probably where my Mother was born. In finding his grave site I found him buried in the I.O.O.F. section of the cemetery. Thats Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In checking out everything I came up with a list of Whitneys in Vermont who belonged to the I.O.O.F. If anyone is interested in something like that I would be happy to share the list. In making the trip to Vermont last July we flew into Boston, and this Wyoming country boy who is my husband said never again would he set foot in Boston. And its a long way from Wyoming so I don't think I would make a reunion but I think its a great idea. I am thoroughly enjoying the web site. >From cold and snowy Wyoming I am Rose Zella

That should tell you his birthplace and parents names, among other useful things. Then you should find him in the census records of 1920, 1910, 1900, 1880, ... That will also be very useful, giving much data. That should get you back one generation. You can try to repeat this for each generation moving backwards. Good luck and good hunting!
