Whitney(b. 1830) on April 8, 1867 at Portland, New York. Their issue was: 1.-John b. Jan.1, 1868 at Athens, Ohio 2.-William b. Jan. 6, 1870 at Hamden, Ohio 3.-Marion S.-b. May 29,1873 at Fredonia, New York 4.-George b. Dec.31, 1877 at Fredonia, New York George W. Whitney was detailed to the Bramhall's Battery of Light Art. were on July 5th, 1863 on the retreat from Gettysburg he was crushed by his horse pulling a gun caisson. On August, 1863 he was docked $18.00 for losing his Colt Revolver. His doctors upon his death testified he died of TB-lung hemorrhage. His wife applied for a pension but I believe was not successful. George was a farmer prior to service. He was a day laborer after the war and under doctors care the rest of his life. This individual and family lived on the western side of New York by Lake Erie in Cautaugua County. One of my second cousins obtained this info from the National Archives thinking it was "our" George Whitney. Will gladly send copies of file to anyone claiming linkage to this George W. Whitney. Sincerely yours, James E. Whitney, II
