All, With regard to the tentative identification of the James Whitney that died at Valley Forge. If true, then that blows one of the theories/hopes held in my family and reinforces the question - who is the following James who is listed in the Gorham, ME marriages at www.whitneygen.org/archives/vitals/maine/gorham.html? Whitney, James and Deborah Murch, Aug. 15, 1785.* This particular James certainly COULD have been the son of Isaac-4 and Hannah PAYNE, who were also married and had several children in Gorham, though neither Pierce nor McLellan identifies him as such. Then again, given the birthdates of Isaac and Hannah's other children, unless James was an unidentified twin (doesn't seem likely), he would more likely be the son of Isaac-4 and Sarah CROSBY. Just a thought. Linda Bastarache ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert L. These soldiers were present at Valley Forge, but only a few of them died there. In particular, reference to _Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War_, at <http://www.whitneygen.org/archives/military/mass/j.html>, reveals that James WHITNEY of Gorham continued to serve until 31 Dec 1780, so he definitely didn't die at Valley Forge. I think it is certain that James WHITNEY the soldier was the same as James WHITNEY, husband of Deborah MURCH. The only problem is determining his parentage! Regards, Robert Robert L.
