    1. [WHITNEY-L] Ford sisters and Whitney brothers

    3. Hi Allan! Things are so quiet at Whitney-L that I've been using the time to read up on some of the archived Whitney-L messages. I noticed back in May 1999 you did some research on Nathan (Nathaniel, Benjamin, John) regarding land purchase in Saco/York, Maine. At the end of that message you mentioned that you were able to confirm that Sarah and Letty Ford were sisters, the daughters of John and Joanna (Andrews) Ford of Kittery. Were you able to find out anything more about them? What about the history of the Ford family? Were they immigrants? Land owners? Were there other Fords in Maine at the time? Where can I go to find out more about the Fords? As you know Sarah and Letty married brothers Nathaniel and John, sons of Benjamin. Nathaniel and John must have had some interesting experiences with Captain Preble and the boys in the Maine woods! It is the family of John and Letty in which I am most interested. By the way, I love your suggestion of a Whitney reunion. Did you get any response?Perhaps it will happen one of these summers. There must be a nice resort down there in the D.C./ Maryland area that could handle a group of 80 -100 for such a gathering. It would be great to have both you and Robert speak on your findings, and also on research techniques for the amateur. There are several others who are experts on the Maine Whitneys (like Jan and Ken from Maryland) and it would be interesting to hear some presentations about the family of Henry and the Southern Whitneys. And Jeanne and Tim Doyle. We could easily fill an entire weekend. Wouldn't it be great to have John Whitney come over from England, you know the gentleman corresponding from Oxford! Haven't you met him? Keep up the good work. from, Carolyn Whitney Branagan
