    1. [WHITNEY-L] Norridgewock, Maine--some Whitneys

    3. I ran across the following Whitneys in the vital records of Norridgewock, Maine, and they may be of use to someone. I don't claim that these are the only mentions of Whitneys in the records, but they are all that I could find. LDS film No. 11577: February 11, 1811 (p. 327) Mr. Isaac Whitney and Miss Betty C. Parlin both of Norridgwock [sic] this day had their intentions of marriage published and a certificate given of the same. recorded Feb. 27th 1811 (p 353) An intention of marriage between Reuben Whitney of Norridgewock and Lucy Sawyer of Meron was entered with me Sept. 18, 1819 and published as the law directs. Certified Oct. 4, 1819. Attest. Wm Allen for Town Clerk. Record of Mortality in Norridgewock 1774-1891 (also film No 11577) p 29. Nov. 13, 1832 Phineas Whitney, consumption and old age, 82 years. ----------- The last individual is Phine(h)as-5 (Isaac-4 , Nathaniel-3, Benjamin-2, John-1and Elinor). --------- Reuben Whitney was also assigned the duty of surveying a portion of the road in Norredgewock in 1831. I presume that this meant keeping an eye out for the condition of the road and making such repairs as were needed rather than laying out the road as we think of surveyors today with their theodolites and bench marks.
