Searching for a William Whitney, possibly born around 1800, give or take several years. He married a Sarah Compton, d/o Joseph Compton and Anna VanDusen "of New York," but Sarah had been married to Joseph Ellender/Elinger/Eleonor first and they probably lived in Lancashire, Pennsylvania. They favored common Anglo names (William, John, Sarah, Thomas, Louise, George Washington ) for their children. The name "Williams" pops up often as a first name.
