WRG, Had a recent business trip to DC and spent a few hours at the national archives. Didn't find one of my elusive relatives who went "west" in the 1880's so I extracted some of the Whitney's that I found. I suspect that the soundex list is not complete since some of my Whitney's were clearly in Erie Co but not on the soundex. The columns should line up better if viewed with courier new fonts. [Census extracts omitted] The Soundex for the 1880 U.S. census only indexes families with children under 10. It is, indeed, incomplete.
