Evan, My name is Russ Whitney. I am also searching for my family heritage. My son is Russell "Walter" Whitney. My father was Russell "Walter" Whitney. I have been able to DEFINITELY trace the heritage as follows. I don't know if this is a connection to you or not,,,, but the names seem to have possibility. As follows: 1. Walter B. Whitney 2nd 1878 - 1943 (my great, great grandfather. 2. Walter B. Whitney 1st 1839 - 1903 (married to Polly O. Meade 1841-1906) 3. Alfred Whitney (Walter B. 1st's) father 1810 - 1867. I have also located the attendance records and minutes of 4 family reunions of Whitneys which are dated back to 1927. It has an overview of the family reunion (of 66 Whitneys) and the names of those in attendance. It seems this line of Whitneys are all from upstate N. Y. IE: Westkill N. Y., Halcott NY, Brooklyn, NY, East Jewitt NY, Tannerville NY Pine Hill, NY, Prattville NY, Verbank NY Bristol Connecticut, So. Kortright NY, Grand Gorge NY, East Masonville NY, Allaben NY, Sidney NY, Bushnellville NY, Binghamton NY, among several others. Should you be interested in more info, email me with a phone number and I will be happy to call you and or fax you other info. It is too much to type in an email. One other tid-bit. In my research, it seems that my family has info tracing our roots back to a John and Elinor Whitney who came to the US in 1635. John and Elinor settled in Massachusetts. John was a British merchant who had 4 sons and a daughter. Son 1- Eli Whitney - Eli's "son" invented the cotton gin and provided munitions to the government in the revolutionary war. Son 2 - Josiah Whitney - A renowned Geologist. Mt. Whitney was named after him. Josiah Sr and jr. both led parts of the Boston Tea Party revolt. Son 3 - Asa Whitney Very successful businessman, although had many hardships along the way. Became President of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroads. If this is accurate, then this line of Whitneys is also related to Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney. This line of Whitneys is extremely wealthy. Owns 80,000 acres of land in the Adirondacks. Owns thoroghbred horse stables in Kentucky, owns several huge estates, started Pan Am Airways. Father, William started and monopolized Metrorails in NY in 1800's, Left a 65 million dollar fortune to the family back in 1800's. that would have to equate to a BILLION in todays dollars. This line of heritage is to the CV and Marylou Whitney's of Saratoga Horse Racing Fame and Whitney Museum of Art in NY among a zillion other Blue-Blood famous things...... I am currently working to verify that this part of the heritage is accurate. Will fill you in further, should you be interested. FYI - I am the Russ Whitney who authored the book Building Wealth. It is one of Simon and Schusters larger financial releases and you can find it in any bookstore in America. (12 other countries as well). Please let me know if you receive this and if it gets you anywhere. Should anyone have any further info on this line of Whitney's, please feel free to forward info. Best regards, Russ Whitney
