See <http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/whitneys/635>, <http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/whitneys/637>. Since "Peggy" is a nickname for "Margaret," these two couples must be identical. For the identity of the husband Elijah WHITNEY, I propose (without any proof, of course!) Elijah-7 WHITNEY [Daniel-6, Elijah-5, Daniel-4, John-3,2,1], b. 16 Jan 1771, Boston, MA, who was age-appropriate and geographically proximate. They were second cousins once removed.<< Robert: I am responding to your message thru Whitney-L since others might be interested in our discussion or have more to add. Good analogy, and you are right that the localities make sense. But they are not likely the same person since the 2 Elijahs and the 2 Margaret/Peggy women appear to be in different generations. Referring to all of our transcribed VRs (Roxbury, Newton, Warwick and Brookline) and referring to Pierce and the NEHGR, I come up with the following possibility: Elijah Whitney <http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/whitneys/637> b. circa 1739 (based upon his spouse's birthdate of 8 May 1741). I propose that he is probably Elijah-6 (Elijah-5, Daniel-4, John 3-2-1) bapt. 23 Sep 1744 in Roxbury, son of Elijah-5 Whitney and Hannah Coffin. Elijah Whitney <http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/whitneys/635> b. circa 1778 may have been the Elijah-7 you listed b. 15 Jan 1771, son of Daniel-6 Whitney and Sarah Gay. I feel confident enough with the above to remove the above from the Misc. Whitneys database and assign them as I have done above. ;-) Jeanne W. Muse >jwmuse@compuserve.com >----------------------------------------- There is only one marriage of an Elijah WHITNEY to a Margaret or Peggy WHITNEY, and that is on 25 Mar 1798, Newton, MA (see VRs). The Margaret WHITNEY who was b. 8 May 1741 in Newton, MA, d. 29 Dec 1769, Newton, aged 29 years (see VRs), unmarried. If she had been married, she would have been listed in the death record as "w. of Elijah," which isn't the way the record reads. That means that there is only one Margaret, and so only one Elijah. What became of Elijah-6 WHITNEY [Elijah-5, Daniel-4, John-3,2,1], bapt. 23 Sep 1744, Roxbury, MA, I can't say. I think you should re-think your conclusions. Regards, Robert Robert L.
