    3. Dear Louise: I have a feeling that your Charles Whitney families are connected to the Henry Whitney of Connecticut line -- but I have no proof. The index for Phoenix's "Whitney Family of Connecticut" contains surnames that are very close in spelling to your HULBURT ... but unfortunately, noone named Sara or Jonathan are listed in his volumes. The similar surnames are: Halbert, Hilbert, Hobart, Holbert, Hubbard, Hubert, Hulbert, Hulburd, Hurlburt, Hulbut and Hurlbutt. Definitely one for using soundex! I will add your query to our Miscellaneous Whitney database for future reference. Maybe someone will come upon it in the future to help you. Good luck! I am looking for Charles Whitney, born about 1847 in NEW YORK, and his parents. He married Sara Hulburt about 1872 probably in Pennsylvania. Two children, William Henry Whitney, b. 13 Mar 1873, PA, Mary Whitney, b. 1879, PA. Believe Charles was married once before, had a daughter. In the 1880 census for Union/Tioga PA, Sara and children are living with Sara's parents, Jonathan and Clarretta Hulburt. Any suggestions about how I would find out if Charles Whitney died? Or possibly left the family?
