Hello Larry, I just saw this inquiry and it reminded me that I haven't conversed with you lately. First, the info on Elizabeth Harding is from Hugh McLellan's History of Gorham, ME. Page 557 gives her parents as Seth Harding and Elizabeth Wilkit, who came from, of all places, Eastham, MA! On pg 829, McLellan makes her the second wife of Josiah Whitney (first wife Hannah Barstow). As you now well know, this is where much confusion starts. For members of the group, I got involved with Larry in this ever-enlarging puzzle by posting a message entitled The Josiah Whitney Puzzle on 8 Feb 1999. The message is archived on the WRG site. Since then, the puzzle has grown, as we have been unearthing more Josiahs than we know what to do with! So far, key info is missing, so the puzzle goes unsolved. Larry, I checked the resouces for Canada at the D.A.R Library in Wash., D.C., and nothing turned up. I intend checking the Library of Congress for Canadian records, but who knows when I will get there. I've left messages on bulletin boards around the internet, but nothing so far. Did you ever find out anything about the Cape Ann Society? Perhaps someone in the WRG knows something about this organization? Anyway, I'll let you know when I get to the LOC, and good hunting.
