    3. WRG, First, does anyone know why we can't access the WRG web site? Regarding my confusion about the Thomas Whitney who married Lydia Tufts in the book Marion Thomas Whitney by Edith S. Middleton, the problem seems to have been solved. I sent this message yesterday, but it got bounced from the list for having something called "hypertext", whatever that is. Anyway, here is the solution. You will remember that the problem was caused by a submission for membership to the DAR by one Mrs. Clara Noble Marble (#68531). She claimed her grandfather was Thomas S. Whitney, who was born 10 September 1799, and married Thankful Blethen, daughter of Increase Blethen and Isabella Whitney. This would make Thomas S. Whitney the same person who married Lydia Tufts in the Marion Thomas Whitney book. Big problem, gladly marked "solved". It appears that Mrs. Marble, believe it ot not, got her own grandfather wrong! Larry Tracy now has forwarded the inscription from Thomas Whitney's grave marker in Merch Cemetery, South Casco (formerly Raymond), Maine, buried there along with his wife Thankful. He is Thomas G. Whitney, not Thomas S. Whitney. The grave marker says his date of death was 15 August 1884, and he was then 88 years, 1 month, 20 days old. This calculates to a birth date of 26 June 1796. This is clearly not the Thomas S. Whitney that Mrs. Marble claims as her grandfather. So, this leaves the Thomas S. Whitney, son of Joseph and Rebecca (Stinchfield) Whitney as the husband of Lydia Tufts, and Thomas G. Whitney as the husband of Thankful Blethen. Larry Tracy has circumstantial evidence for the parents of Thomas G. Whitney, but no hard evidence, so I will not at this time speculate on his ancestry. Should this information be placed on the WRG site as a correction to a published source? Ken Whitney Silver Spring, MD
