Can anyone tell me where I might get information regarding this company? I have a letter in my possession that was written to my great grandfather (R.J. Setzler, husband of Julia A Whitney)by their nephew, C.M. Savage (son of S. Agnes Whitney). He mentions a "floorwalker" and that he was the cashier as he wrote the letter. The return address is rubber-stamped "S.H. Knox & Co., Lowell, Mass." The husband of this young man's sister was named Frank Knox, and I have a letter from them as well with the return address of "The Knox-Looker Co., 39 N. High St.. Columbus, Ohio." I am wondering if the 2 companies are connected and how Frank was connected to both of them. But possibly one company took over both and the name of one is more familiar. A side note - in the letter, this young man from Minnesota who was working and living in Lowell, made a trip to Boston. He tells my great grandparents about the subway that goes under the streets and under the houses. He mentions that they are in the process of building an "electric elevated road" and then there would no longer be cars on the streets as the streets are too narrow. Knowing how crowded the streets of Boston are, this brought a chuckle. If nothing else, is there a directory of some sort for Lowell,MA for 1900 or so that might give info on this company? Thanks for any help. Jo Hogle
