Married Margaret Ann LANEY 8 Nov. 1866 b.15 Oct. 1850 Ohio d. 9 May 1931 Talmage Ks. We believe that John had 2 sisters Ann & Lucy and 2 brothers Jim & Calvin. One or more of these may have been a half sibling. John and Margaret had 4 sons named Thomas Calvin, William Dunson, Martin Eickleberger, and Elmer Lemuel. Any information will help. I've looked for this family for so long I'm beginning to think they were highway men and had changed there names. :) Who were Johns parents? who were Margarets parents?? But this is an interesting passage from an email I received from Stu Whitney back in 1998: "In the Whitney Phoenix book on The Whitney Family of Connecticut, there is a record (#394) of a John, born at Stamford in 1746, whome tradition said had a wife and three sons and was last known to have settled at Prescot in Upper Canada around 1800. And his Stamford relatives had lost contact with him. Of interest is that this John's father's name was Eliakim!" Hi Holly It looks pretty certain that the "Whitney Boys" you are looking for are part of my Canadian Whitney line. My great-grandfather was John WHITNEY, son of Peter WHITNEY, son of John WHITNEY (who died in Prescot ON Canada) son of Eliakim WHITNEY, son of Nathan WHITNEY, son of John WHITNEY, son of Henry WHITNEY. I have recently received some information that I am still trying to sort out. But in the info I have there is reference to John L. WHITNEY who received property from his grandfather John WHITNEY. It appears that your John L. WHITNEY is a cousin to my great-grandfather John WHITNEY.
