I'm looking for my ancestor, Abner WHITNEY (John-4, Isaiah-3, Thomas-2, John-1) in the 1800 census. I haven't yet had a chance to look at the actual census, but in the index there is an Abel WHITNEY in Cumberland Co., ME. Abner was certainly in Cumberland Co. by 1810, and very likely by 1800. Abner was born in MA and lived there until moving to ME; I can't find him in MA in 1800, either. I'm thinking that the man in Cumberland Co. recorded as Abel may actually be Abner, unless Abel has already been identified as somebody else -- does anybody know? Thanks Esther Whitney Mott California
Hello Esther, I have Abner and his wife Sarah moving from Mass. to Falmouth (Portland), where at least their son Samuel was born abt 1759. I know they lived in Otisfield, ME from 1782 to 1784. Their daughter Beulah married Jonathan Britton there in 1785. They must have moved back to Falmouth, for I have deaths there for both of them. Abner died 5 March 1802 and Sarah died Nov 1815. I hope this is of help. Can you tell us how you descend?
