    1. [WHITNEY-L] Worm Virus Hit our List!!
    2. Jeanne Muse
    3. Dear Whitneys: I just retrieved a long string of e-mail messages and was reviewing them in my software, Outlook Express. One of them, from our list, from INFECTED with a virus - as my Norton Anti-virus software caught immediately and gave me the option to delete it. It reported that an ActiveX control was bad. I have experience with this virus - WScript.KAKWorm. It attachs itself as a hidden signature to any outgoing email message using Outlook Express. People don't usually know they have it or are spreading it to others until it is too late. A tell-tale sign is a weird error message that appears when Windows starts. You can also check your Signature (in the Tools menu) to see if the box at the bottom for File is checked. If it is, you are infected! BEWARE -- If you don't have anti-virus software installed on your computer, get some now. The virus/worms that I have heard about most recently are DEADLY and can crash your computer and disable Windows permanently, causing a complete loss of data! Also - go to Windows Update on Microsoft's Update pages and get any upgrades to Outlook Express, especially those concerning security issues, like ActiveX controls. Jeanne

    3. Hi Jeanne, I just wanted to pass on a bit of encouragement to you as you prepare to save all the genealogical information you have collected. You may or may not know what a valuable addition you have made to the WRG. Though many of us corresponding will never meet one another, we ARE related through the people whose lives we are studying. Your advice is trusted. Your information, along with that of several other members on Whitney-L, is pretty much taken as gospel. Thank you for all you have so generously shared with us. Also, it seems that people have to reach a certain age before they really care much about those who went before them. It seems, that folks have to experience some of the high and low points of life themselves, before they can really appreciate the struggles people of earlier times encountered. Most amateur genealogists that I know are in their late 30's or 40's before they show any interest at all in family history. This is not true of everyone, but is of many. So don't give up on your own family, they may come to it later on. And even if they don't, you help all of us! And we still need your input! I'll leave the answers to your questions to someone with more experience in preservation. But if you find a calligrapher can you let me know? By the way, what do you think of a Whitney Reunion? Thanks, Carolyn Whitney Branagan Jeanne Muse wrote: > Dear WRG: No one in my immediate family gives a flying fig about > genealogy -- at least not now. 3. Dear WRG, I've been searching for quite a while for an Arvilla Whitney, b. circa 1862 in New York. I found a very interesting family this week in Norforlk, St. Lawrence County, NY. 3. Hi Carolyn, Just read your message re FORD line in Maine. I have a Cadwallider FORD, b.c.1703; d. 1790, Wilmington,MA. The following information is from an article written by Janet Ireland Delorey in "The Maine Seine", Aug 1988: Chadwaliter/Cadwallader Ford held a positon of prominence with Clark & Lake Co....he was involved with a territorial dispute between Kennebec Co & Clark & Lake Co., which extended from mouth of Kennebec River up to Cobboseconte Falls in the Province of Maine...as outlined in "The Kennebeck Proprietors" (Gorden E.Kershaw , Portland, Maine 1975, p.154 ff.) (Cadwallider's daughter Hannah FORD, mar.my gr- gr-gr-grandf.Job FOSTER who was from Andover, MA.) Other children of Cadwallider as listed in "The Maine Seine" by Janet Delorey: Dea.Samuel Ford Sarah, b. 1731, mar. James Gray of Bideford Also mentioned - Dea.Samuel FORD & his bro. Francis & sister Elizabeth who mar. Rev. Josiah Winship as his 2nd wife - all were early settlers of Georgetown and Woolwich. I have a Winship line that connects to my WHITNEY line, too. If you want a copy of this article will be happy to send. 3. Dear WRG: No one in my immediate family gives a flying fig about genealogy -- at least not now. Later generations might and I want to share my 12+ years of research with them in some form. Towards that end, I have some questions to pose to you, since your opinions have the most weight in my mind. 1) Original birth, death & marriage certificates as well as copies of bible pages and other hard-to-locate documents are a large part of the "proof". Where should I store them and how? Should I put them in binders and put them in my safety deposit box at the bank? And a regular e-ring notebook would probably not last. Finding a high quality binder with acid-free insert pages may be necessary. Anybody have a source? 2) I plan to print a complete Journal Narrative and could keep this in the same place as the above documents. The same applies -- how and where should I store it? Where could I find a "bound-book" style binder for it? Or..should I have it 'privately published'? 3) Wall-size family chart. Printing one out on the computer just doesn't seem sufficient. Has anyone had experience with an artist or calligrapher who could design one for me? This would be the final accomplishment - a beautiful piece of artwork for my wall. 4) It goes without saying that, after I'm gone, the wonderful published genealogies in my library would need a home. Let's hope that my family members would keep them -- but how do I make sure of this? Should I add a line or two in my will? Any suggestions? Jeanne

As you know, the Farrar surname intermingles quite often with our Whitneys. Sue and I are mulling over the possibility that the ELIZABETH FARRAR who married ISAIAH WHITNEY in 1728 could be the same one born on 25 Jun 1702 in Concord, Mass., daughter of Ensign John Farrar and his wife Elizabeth Merriam. [Concord VRs] If anyone has more information that could shed more light on this mysterious Elizabeth (Farrar) Whitney, let me know & will pass it along to Sue. Thank you! BTW, Sue has been examining carefully other Farrar/Whitney connections as transcribed and posted on our WRG site. She told me if she finds more connections or additions for us, she will advise me. 3. Hi, It's a while since I've been here... Is John Whitney of Oxford, or Ayleen Walker of New Zealand here? The email address I have for John is out of date. My Whitneys are Welsh, of Breconshire and Radorshire moving into Monmouthshire earlier this century. I'm interested in hearing from Whitneys from this region.
