I know there are others out there researching the missing link to Ebenezer Whitney (b. circa 1745) who may be interested in this. I have been corresponding with another descendent of Ebenezer named Hilary Foskett from Victoria, British Columbia who through her own research (and her aunt and grandmother's) have Samuel Whitney (b. 1719 in Maine) as the father of Ebenezer Whitney. Hilary is now 85 and said she got this information through her grandmother who lived in the area in New Brunswick and also she said she got a lot of her information from a series called "Vital Statistics from New Brunswick Newspapers" which was published by a local genealogist there. She had volumes from 1770 to 1880, but gave them to the Victoria Genealogical Society. Is there anyone who can validate this information or who has access to these newspapers? The below is still not transmitting properly - most likely because of email line length limitations. Those of you who have internet savvy know that you can highlight the address in the top browser bar, click on the end of the address and type .htm and either Go or Enter to arrive at the destination. You can also get there via the "Home" page here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Entitled "Albany and Eastern New York Genealogy" Look for the link under TABLE OF CONTENTS -- RECORDS -- VITAL RECORDS - deaths The Home page is chock full of useful other links too! Would anyone care to help a college student with a survey on genealogists? This was sent to me thru another rootsweb list and asked to pass it on. ===================================================== The Fullerton Genealogy Study California State University, Fullerton Nearly 60% of U.S. residents participate in some genealogical activities with worldwide figures not readily available. Yet there is sparse information about the millions of people involved in this rewarding hobby and what needs are met by the pursuit of one's ancestors. A thesis project designed to address these questions is being conducted at California State University Fullerton. Interested genealogists and family historians are being asked to fill out a 20 minute survey online. All information will be anonymously collected and no identifying information about individual answers will be divulged. See the survey at: http://psych.fullerton.edu/genealogy This research project is being conducted by Pamela J. Drake, a Master of Arts student in Psychology at California State University, Fullerton and is supervised by William D. Marelich, Ph.D. Questions or comments about the study may be directed to the researchers at: email: genealogy_study@hotmail.com telephone: (714) 278-7052 Ms. Drake has just sent me a notice that I will be notify when the summary of the results becomes available. . . . I wonder what kind of a strange breed we will be shown as ? ? Ken Hedgpeth - Arcadia, CA
Dear WRG: Wilbalee (Whitney) Clark submitted the families of Charles L. WHITNEY and Sara M. TILLINGHAST for insertion into the "Unconnected Whitneys" database some time ago. A few months ago, Russ Sage advised that he had found their connection to John and Eleanor. His data will appear in the next update of the John and Elinor database. Dear WRG: I received this nice message from Nancy Horn yesterday. It concerns Joshua-5 Whitney (Joshua-4, David-3, Joshua-2, John-1). I believe most of this information is contained in the most recent John & Elinor database already, but thought I'd pass it along for those researching his descendants. Jeanne Muse ----- Original Message ----- From: <Norhn@aol.com> To: <jwmuse@compuserve.com> Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2001 6:50 PM Subject: Whitney database Hi - Just found you at rootsweb, and I have some corrections, or additions, for you. The Joshua Whitney who married Sally Cochran is my three greats grandfather, and I have his and Sally's dates and birthplaces in his own handwriting. He was born March 25, 1750, in Canaan, Litchfield, CT. son of Joshua & Amy Blodgett, died in March of 1821 in Bridport, Addison Co., VT. ( I don't know why John Bacon, his nephew, has his birthdate as Nov. 28, but in Joshua's notebook, Sally's birthdate LOOKS like the 28th. Maybe Bacon mixed up their dates, somehow.) Sally was named Sarah, born November 23, 1763 in Colrain, Franklin, Mass., daughter of Col. Robert Cochran and Mary Miller. She married Joshua on December 1, 1785, and died on Jan. 29, 1810. Thanks for your work on this enormous project. Nancy Horn
