    3. Hello Bil, I believe the Joseph Whitney you have here is Joseph Newell Whitney, son of Zachariah Leach Whitney and Elizabeth C. Hayden, born 13 September 1836 in Raymond, Maine. I know nothing of his descendants, but would like to learn anything I can about him. I am anxious to see your posting. Thanks for the hard work. 3. Dear Lois: A MANTLE WHITNEY appears in the Unconnected "Miscellaneous" Whitney database that I maintain. He is being researched by Mary (don't know her last name) whose address I have as snowball@aol.com . Mary told me this about him: "They all moved to Michigan except for Norman who moved to Texas. Irving, Lewis and Robert lived in Wayne County in MI. Bert lived in northern Mi I believe in Oscoda County. I do not know where in Texas Norman moved to. Mantle also had two other children with another wife I do not know her name. I remember as a child that my aunt and uncle use to go visit down in Youngstown OH. That tends to make me believe that maybe their were some Whitney's living there." According to what Mary provided, Mantle Whitney was b. circa 1863 in New York. He married Mary FULLER in about 1885 in Pennsylvania and they had the following children: Bert Whitney, b. circa 1886 Irving Whitney, b. 1888 Lewis Whitney, b. 1892 Norm Whitney, b. 1896 Robert Whitney, b. 1901 Mary and Mantle appeared in the 1900 New York Census. I wish I could be more helpful. You might search the WRG web site http://www.whitneygen.org to look at any other information on Mantle and/or Mentle Whitney. Good luck! Of course at that time it was a territory so who knows what state they were born in. Adaline in various census is usually spelled as Adeline. All but one census said here birth place was Connecticut. The last census she was in, was completed by John H. and said her birthplace was Massachuetts. She was living with John at the time of the census. But my question is this, Does it seem that these two are sisters or cousins and that they were "Camp ladies"? I have not been able to find out anything more about either of the two. 3. Dear Marie: These questions have been posed to WRG quite a few times over the years. See the discussion in our archives in which Robert Ward explains it much better: http://www.whitneygen.org/archives/mailinglist/list9807.html Evidently the Joshua who married Amy was the son of David. The Joshua who married Anna was the son of William. The Joshua who married Sarah Cochran should be the grandson of David, son of Joshua who married Amy Blodgett. The Joshua who married Anne Ashley should be the grandson of William, son of Joshua who married Anna Blodgett. I'm sure all of us would like to see what more you have. 1. [WHITNEY-L] Genealogy Survey
    2. Earl W. Woodford
    3. I took the genealogy survey that was mentioned here. I was rolling along answering questions with no problems. Then came the "trick" questions. These were concerning my thoughts on homeless people, charities, if I read to children, if I wanted to teach, if I am a role model and so on and so on. I know this person is trying to understand what type of person does genealogy, but it seemed to me that this was becoming political and asking questions that were no one's business and had little, if anything, to do with genealogy. I'd say, help with the survey, but be cautious about which questions you answer and how. Penny Woodford A Southern Whitney

My g. grandmother was Delilah Jane Gavett. She married George Sands Whitney, son of the above mentioned Jacob. (Noted the child ,Delia living with Issac & Mary Gavett) This all may lead to a confirmation my Gavett line ,as well (where I have a missing generation) Noticing that Solomon was born in Vt.--we may have been looking in the wrong places. Is there any information as to Solomon's parents and the line to which he belongs.??? He would have been of the same generation as our g.g. grandfather Jacob ---so possibly was his brother.
