    3. Rice, Now you've got me wondering about the ancestry of yet another Ambrose White, who first appears in the 1799 Caroline Co., VA, personal tax list but had no taxed land. This Ambrose White was listed as taxed on May 26 along with James White and William White, Jr., both of which I suspect are the sons of Ambrose White. This Ambrose was not listed in the 1789 Caroline Co. tax list. He is said to have married Ann Jones in Jan. 1776 and to have died 2 Jun 1823 in Caroline Co. His children were named in a chancery court suit: James Jones White, Horace White, Ira White, Elizabeth J. White, Patsy White, Rachael White, and William S. White (d. BEF 12 Jul 1823 Caroline Co.). Records in Caroline Co. are spotty as it is a "burned county". Some White researchers suspect this Ambrose was related to the Whites of Halifax Co. One tells me Ambrose possibly had brothers Moses and James, and they may have been the sons of a James White, and their line may have connected to Chillion White of 17th century Virginia. There was another landless Chillion White in the 1799 Caroline Co. tax list.
