Several months ago we visited an aunt of my husband...she also had a "glass" picture in a small case...we pulled the picture out of the boxed frame in order to examine the back of it for names, dates, etc....much to our surprise, the picture was printed on the glass and the back of the approx. 2"x2" box was done in a velvet type of backing and, of cource, there were no dates or names on the picture. it too was of a young dark haired man in uniform...I am not familiar with these different types of uniforms but was so very relieved that we didn't shatter the pic. We also have WHITEs in our line...William WHITE b. June 13, 1846 died Dec. 4, 1904...married Frances Gracey HILTON in Navarro Co. Tx they both are buried in San Saba Co., Tx...Frances was b. May 22, 1846 died Oct. 23, 1943...her parents were Terrell HILTON and Rebecca KING.
