Ian, Your query is at the roots (clever eh?) of what Genealogists do: "With the current wide use of the Internet, can anyone now throw any light which will allow the Americans to discover the ancestry of William WHITE, one of their nation's founders? Wouldn't it be great if he was on your family tree? " FYI, the same issue interested me in another White, John WHITE, who was a founder of the FIRST Anglo settlement of the US, at Jamestown in 1587ish, where the FIRST American citizen, Virginia DARE, was born to Eleanor (DARE) WHITE, w/o Ananias Dare, d/o John WHITE, appointed by Sir Walter Raleigh to lead the founding settlement, which became known as the Lost Colony. I am a Dare. Below are some online Gen sites avail to all for such discovery searches. However, the UK is still somewhat provincial, in that many of the best records are only avail to those who show up in person - NEVERTHELESS, there are some EXcellent free online resources and some other quasi-free (locate the info free then pay small money to access/ download) databases. For example, here are a few of both the former & the latter - the first w/a few examples of 1500s Whites: http://www.documentsonline.pro.gov.uk/ Search UK Documents, including 34 Wills John White 1550-1600 wills - Browsing Family History > Wills UK Welcome to DocumentsOnline DocumentsOnline (formerly PRO-Online) allows you online access to the Public Record Office's collection of digitised public records, including both academic and genealogical sources. I thought that I was descended from the Mayflower Whites so was researching Peregrine whom I was suppose to descend from. As already stated the Mayflower does not reconize this line. After reading the info posted I still maybe kin to them whether Mayflower Associa. agrees or not correct? At the time my sister and I remarked "wonder what William and Susannah resloved to name a child Resolved" (bro to Peregrine) Anyway in my journey researching the Peregrine White I came across this in a book (I have it packed some where being as I was told NO I am not of that line I packed it all down and started looking elsewhere). The story went on to say that the birth of Peregrine on board the Mayflower came about because two of the Billington boys were acting up on board the ship. The men folk were already ashore building houses ect so they could leave the ship. One of the Billington boys caused a keg of gunpowder to catch fire which threw Susannah into labor. The book also states that the Billington boy I believe his name was Luke was the first hanging in the new world. He was hung because he committed murder. Like I said I have the info here somewhere but can't get to it right now. It was a blue book kinda slender and I think it was called History of Mayflower. It also talked about before they came over. The way the ship was and a lot of interesting things. This has been about 5 years ago that I came across this book. Maybe someone else has read it? Glitz
