    3. "Jul 1979 Katie Johns here from St. Paul, Minn. I am also researching McFarland people. Maybe if we exchange a few letters we can be of help to each other. I do not charge for my work, just work on an exchange basis. I have a David Smith who md Martha McFarland son of James and Eliz Smith Lahead Lunenburg Co., VA. Also Eliz Smith MacFarland, daughter of Abraham Smith, Dinwiddie Co., VA, wife of James. She was wi Lahead. From Old Free State Vol II, Lunenburg, VA. If you have any other names you want me to check, I'll be pleased to do so, especially if you can help me on my flora McFarland b ca 1782 in SC who md 1797 a Mr. McDuffie and who lived in Chesterfield Dist, SC 1810 and 1820 as a widow, (age 26.45) both years. She had three daughters, two md in SC and Eliz who md Coleman Ford, Nancy who md Dempsey Rivers and Mary who md 1850 in DeKalb Co., GA David Rosser (Roper) his second wf. I have been thinking that Flora's parents probably came from NC to SC. Lived in the mountains. A story comes down about flora riding to the Mill on her pony, when Tories took the grain she was taking to the mill and would have taken her pony, but the Miller rescued her. She was alongside a swift moving stream which doesn't appear to be a regular feature in Chesterfield Dist SC more like in a far western area of SC or even NC. I have many McFarland families and will be waiting to hear from you, even if it is a "no" reply. Regards, Katie." Eva
