    2. Bob White, The great potato famine occurred in Ireland in 1845-1849. Was there another one in the 1700's? Billy White Bolton In a message dated 11/24/2006 2:36:03 P.M. I trace my lineage to John White, Sr. who came to this country in the early 1700's after a potato famine in Ireland. Bob White

    3. I saw this same message and wondered the same. I was calling some names some years back in northern states of name "Brannon. " I got one that told me his line had come from the potatoe famine time in Ireland in 1846, so I had it first hand from a descendant. I think the person made a typo error. My John Brannon b 1745 came here in 1763 on a boat after a disagreement when 18 yr's old with his dad name Patrick Brannon. Not with a potatoe famine family. 3. It's been a family handed down tradition that the first John White, Sr. came to this country because of Potato famine in Ireland. I'd never questioned it, but I just went on line and entered "potato famine Ireland" and found info only about the great famine you mentioned. And nothing is mentioned about other famines. Worth doing more research. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
