    3. John, Your assumptions are not correct.. White's Lake near Highlands was named for Jesse White, It was on his original grant as part of the "Old 300". He was the son of William and Amy White, born in St. Martinville area of LA. After Williams death in 1805, Amy moved with the "old 300" group in 1824 to TX with some of her children to the Highlands area (initially called White's Settlement) the name was changed to Highlands when they opened a Post Office there and found that another town was using the White Settlement name.. They claimed lands on both sides of the San Jacinto River from slightly below what is now I-10 to above Crosby, TX Some of her children were Reuben White, Jesse White, George White, William White, Mary/William Whitlock, Rebecca/Presley Gill, Henry White and others. James Taylor White of present day Chambers County was her brother-in-law. Many other members of the White and related families moved to Texas a little later and claimed lands in east and central Texas. Reuben's Rifle in on display at the San Jacinto Battleground Museum. I descend from the union of George and Rebecca Morris Phipps White (son of William White and Amy Comstock White. I have hundreds of pages of documentation on this family group prior to TX dates and to current time on George White Group. Henry Calhoun White was one of four sons from George and Rebecca marriage.
