    3. Marleen, where did you purchase this book.. Slaves in the Family...??? I just got finished reading "Broke by the War, Letters of a Slave Trader.." also about slave trading... Why did the slaves' take the name White from the Ball family??? I am trying to connect my White family in the Sumter area.. I have seen the Ball family mentioned in the Sumter area. I think that my White's were probably slave traders as the book I just told you about was from another side of my family that were also traders.... Plus ... although I haven't made the connection with the White side I see mentioned in this book that Leonard White had about a hundred slaves to sell... and I am not sure how but I think my White side is connected to his.
