Rilla: You were probably the one that contacted me before. At this link, U.K.,,is where I found the list of Quantrill's Raiders. It has James and John White listed. http://www.ukans.edu/heritage/research/quantrill.txt This got me interested in Quantrill and the James Gang..I have lots of Civil War Books, but not much on these two. I just ordered 3 books from Amazon, they are: 1. The Devil Knows how to Ride,,,The true Story of William Clarke Quantrill and his Confederate Raiders. This is a large book,,over 400 pages,,and I haven't read it yet, and the index is not very good. 2.Three Years with Quantrill, by his Scout, John McCorkle. He didn't give lots of names, and its good reading, but the James and John White are not mentioned. Its about 250 pages and I have finished it. 3.Jesse James Was His Name, by William Settle. I am reading it now. The White brothers are listed in the index of this book. On page 36,,,this was one of the first bank robberies blamed on the James Gang. It was supposed to have been Jesse & Frank James and 10 others. The robbery was at the Hughes & Wasson Bank, Richmond, Missouri, on May 22, 1867. Warrents were later issued for 7 of the men, including James & John White. This is all I've found so far. If you have access to any other books on Quantrill or Jesse James, I would like to know if you find anything. This is how I connect to a couple of brothers, James & John White; My G.G.Grandfather was Burgess White, b.1808, S.C., d. 1869, in Blount County, Alabama. One of his brothers, Elbert White, also born in S.C., lived in Walker Co., Al., moved to McNairy Co. Tn., before 1850, then moved to Polk County, Arkansas about 1855,,and was there in the 1860 census, and James, b. abt. 1838, and John, b. abt.1846, were living at home. They were in the right place,,right time and about the right age, but will probably be inpossible to find out if they are the outlaws.
